Fourth of July Celebrations In or Around Oneonta
Welcome back to the Hillside Commons Blog! Independence Day is this week, so now is the time to confirm your plans for celebrating or to make them! Today our blog has ideas for some events and ways you can celebrate in or out of your apartment here in Oneonta, NY for a great holiday.
Spend your day at Neahwa Park (just a nine-minute drive from our community). Participate in the Color Oneonta Run in the morning to prep for all the barbecuing you might be doing later or to simply have a reason to join with others in the community celebrating the holiday in a burst of color. Afterward, you can enjoy the Fourth of July Parade on Main Street and into the park and watch the fireworks display.
Don’t forget to check out the live music and dances being performed at the festival, too. Participate in activities and attractions, arts and crafts, and enjoy food and other vendor goods to make the most of the day. See the site for an extensive list of all you can do at this event!
If you’re going to be spending time outside of Oneonta, consider heading to the parade in Springfield! The 104th annual parade (themed “It’s a Grand Old Flag”) begins at 11 am in Springfield Center and will feature live music, Brooks’ chicken barbecue, a quilt show, historical displays, and games and activities for all to enjoy.
The evening concert, featuring local rock band Scattered Flurries, will start afterward at Glimmerglass State Park Beach. Stick around for more — you won’t want to miss the fireworks display afterward.
Of course, taking refuge in your apartment may be more of a viable option for you, whether you simply want a quiet day in, you want to throw a barbecue at your apartment with loved ones, or you want some reprieve from the hot sun! We suggest watching a summer- or patriotic-themed movie, making a craft, or simply socializing with your guests.
What are your favorite ways to celebrate the Fourth of July? What are your favorite activities, traditions, patriotic movies, or red-, white-, and blue-themed snacks to enjoy? Share your thoughts with the rest of the apartment community by leaving a comment. Thanks for reading! Happy Independence Day!
