Great Summer Movies

Welcome back to Hillside Commons Blog! This month, we’re welcoming in the season by recommending a few summer-themed movies to watch at your Oneonta, NY apartment. Start popping some popcorn, invite some friends over, and get ready for an epic summer movie night.

Top Gun (1986)

Action, Drama

In this 80s classic, join young Tom Cruise as he fights to be the best student at a United States naval academy. Unique to his other classmates, he gets the chance to learn more than he ever could in a classroom from a private teacher.

The Sandlot (1993)

Comedy, Drama, Family

The epitome of summer as a kid—complete with swimming pools, cute lifeguards, s’mores, treehouses, and, of course, baseball—The Sandlot touches on childhood memories of both boys and girls alike.

Holes (2003)

Adventure, Comedy, Drama

Sometimes you have to dig down deep to find out who you really are. Out of the Texas dust swirls a tale of crime, punishment, and redemption. The surprising action is as tightly coiled as a rattlesnake. Newcomer LaBeouf plays the innocent Stanley, who is nabbed for stealing a pair of sneakers, and sent to a youth center, where juvenile delinquents build character by digging holes. To restore order, he must face family curses, bullies, and poisonous yellow-spotted lizards.

The Last Song (2010)

Drama, Music, Romance

“Ronnie's (Miley Cyrus) and her younger brother, Jonah's, parents are divorced. They live with their mother until this summer when they are sent to live with their father (Greg Kinnear) in a small town on the beach. Ronnie resents her father and has no intention of being friendly or even talking to him for the summer. But after meeting a handsome guy and beginning to fall in love, Ronnie starts rediscovering her love for music, something she shares with her father.”
